I love to cook and bake. Oddly enough cooking/baking make me feel calm and at peace. Even though I do dislike the cleaning up afterwards and the constant washing up of dishes, especially when I make a more complicated meal or if I cook for Christmas.
I am not sure if it is a Romanian thing, but I do love to feed people and cook for people and try new recipes. Especially with me living in England, I like to cook/bake some typical Romanian recipes from Ardeal, the region in Romania I am from. My British housemate seems to like the food I cook, he even enjoys 'sarmale' (stuffed cabbage leaves) but he still looks at 'salata de vinete' (aubergine salad) with suspicion.
Generally, he is very happy to try Romanian cooking. As we are nearing Easter it is time for me to make a vegetarian 'drob' (a traditional Romanian dish of lamb offals with herbs).
Today's recipe though is French-inspired and is a very simple and quick dish that can be used as a main meal or as a side dish. There are multiple recipes for potato gratin and I tried a number of them, but none came close to being done as quick and being as tasty as this one.
Most of the recipes that I will add are not my own, they come from a wide variety of cookbooks I use. Where the recipe is my own concoction, I will add my name as the author. I do like to sometimes whip together different recipes, mainly with leftovers in my fridge.
