I love doughnuts. I mean, who doesn't, right?! They are just nice and fluffy and sometimes filled with jam. But, I do not like to fry them. They are not the most healthy of things, but they are oh so good.
At one point, I wanted to make doughnuts but wanted to try a different recipe where I do not need to fry them. So I found a recipe, by a Romanian chef, Laura Adamache, where she bakes them in the oven. Now hers are a bit different, she adds some orange juice to the recipe, makes a hole in the middle and also coats them in melted butter and sugar. I prefer them as they are.
So, the following recipe is a bit edited by me, I removed some of the things I didn't want, just because I don't remember my mom ever adding orange juice to them. So while it is not necessarily my moms' recipe, but it is what I remember when my mom used to make them.
If you do not have a round cutter, which we didn't have when I was little, we had a special glass that we used to cut the doughnuts. That was my job. A very important job I might add.
This recipe was made using a bread-maker.
And this is the end result. They are very yummy, and we slabber jam on
